Biographical Notes:

"Private J. W. Omand, killed by a gunshot wound in action, was the son of Mr P. S. Omand, of Roslyn. Educated at the Kaikorai and Maori Hill Schools, he entered the employ of Omand Brothers, and left with the Seventeenth Reinforcements. He was an accomplished violinist, and at the meeting of the Dunedin Philharmonic Society a resolution of condolence with the parents was adopted."
