Biographical Notes:

Alfred served in South Africa, (appears as Otten with the 3rd Contingent) World War 1(New Zealand Permanent Forces, General Duties Section}  and World War 2. For 30 years he served aboard the "Jamie Seddon", based   in Wellington Harbour. He had served continually with NZ forces since 1901. Although serving on a RNZN ship, he was being paid by the Army.
