Biographical Notes:

"WELLINGTON, July 14.— The Premier has received the following cable from Sir A. Milner:— Cape Town, 13th.— Regret to report the following members of New Zealand Contingents died of enteric fever at Germiston on July 11th:— Troopers Keith Gorrie (Auckland, No. 1 Company, First Contingent). C. E. Wiggins (New Plymouth, No. 1 Company, Third Contingent), Lance-Corpl. E. B. Tosswill (Kaikoura, No. 1 Company, Third Contingent).

The news of the death of Trooper Wiggins will be received with widespread regret. The deceased was on the staff of the Bank of New South Wales, and for some time was stationed in New Plymouth, where he made many friends. He was a fine manly young fellow, and took a prominent interest in athletics of all descriptions." [Taranaki Herald, Volume XLVIII, Issue 11511, 14 July 1900, Page 3]
