Biographical Notes:

"A verdict of accidental death was returned by the coroner, Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., at an inquest held at Hamilton into the death of Gunner Norman John Wilkes, aged 32, married, formerly of Invercargill. Evidence was given that the deceased was riding a horse on Mr H. Main’s property at Okoroire. The animal swerved and passed under a tree, the deceased’s head striking against a bough. His skull was fractured. and he died at the Waikato Hospital."
