Biographical Notes:

"As the Rotorua express approached Manurewa this morning a porter on the station discovered the body of a man on the cowcatcher, proved to be the body of a soldier, named Joseph Cartwright, of Paparoa, North Auckland, belonging to the 29th Reinforcements. "

"The adjourned inquest on the soldier named Joseph Cartwright, who was killed at the Manurewa railway station on Wednesday, was held at Papakura, before Mr. C. Roadley (District Coroner), to-day. The Coroner returned a verdict to the effect that deceased was accidentally killed, and that no blame was attachable to the driver or fireman."
