Biographical Notes:

“Rifleman Francis John Andrews, who was killed in action on August 26, was the second eldest son of the late Mr Thomas Andrews and Mrs E. Hanley. He was educated at the North-East Valley and George Street Schools. Up to the time of his enlisting with the 16th Reinforcements he was working for Messrs J. and W. Faulkner. He was a keen sport, having played football with the Alhambra and Union Clubs and cricket with C. and W. Hayward’s in the League Competition. His younger brother was killed at Messines on June 9, 1917.“ [Otago Witness, Issue 3367, 25 September 1918, Page 42]
