Biographical Notes:

Ventura NX4544  left Ohakea at around  9am on the 3rd October 1944 on a navigation training exercise. Due to a wind change, they drifted off course and crashed into Mt. Egmont,11 miles from Opunake,  which was covered in cloud. The burning aircraft was found by a searching plane that afternoon and the bodies of the 5 airmen were recovered the next day.

                          Harold Day  (Navigator)

                          Arnold Hill  (Wireless Operator) 

                          James Mckay  (Air Gunner)

                          Frank Webb  (Air Gunner)
