Biographical Notes:

On the night of the 25th/26th August 1944, 412 Lancaster bombers set off from the UK to raid the Opel Motors factory in Russelsheim, Germany. 17 aircraft were lost.

Raymond Ede was the air bomber aboard a Lancaster  III , serial ND852/D of the 7 Sqdn. ( Path Finder Force) based at Oakington, Cambridgeshire.

The aircraft was brought down, crashing near Budenbach. The 7 crew all baled out and were taken prisoner, except for Ede, who was found to be dead.

He was originally buried at Pliezenhausen, but later moved to the CWGC cemetery at Rheinberg.

8 New Zealanders were lost on that raid.
