Biographical Notes:

"A well-known Papakura footballer, Private L. D. (“Bun”) Evans, previously reported missing, has now been reclassified as killed in action. Private Evans was the youngest son of Mrs A. Evans and the late Mr. Albert Evans, of Papatoetoe and formerly of Wairoa Road, Papakura. He was a well-known member of the Papakura Rugby League Football Club and also a popular member of the Papakura Methodist Tennis Club for some years. Before joining the Army be was an attendant at the Kingseat Mental Hospital. He has a sister serving with the Forces in the Middle East. Private Evans was aged 25 and left New Zealand last December. He was killed in action in the Tunisian campaign. He was educated at the Papakura District School and Pukekohe Technical High School."[Franklin Times, Volume XXXII, Issue 75, 7 July 1943, Page 4]
