Biographical Notes:

Arthur Richard Fitz Herbert was baptised on 22 February 1854, Derbyshire, England. Published family research gives his date of birth as 9 November 1853, and that seems reasonably accurate given his baptism in February the following year. Date of birth given in his service record as, 9 November, 1876, is obviously false given that he also states he was married in Marton in 1881 (supposedly at the age of four or five), and his wife had their first child in 1883 (when he would have been six or seven).
