I am very proud to have possession of this very brave soldier's DCM. My Grandfather Howard Dickey was Andrew's older brother. The citation reads; "For conspicuous gallantry. While under heavy fire from the enemy a misfire occurred in his gun. Ordering his men under cover he proceeded to unscrew the fuse. Flames were actually issuing from the vent but he succeeded in his plucky Act. He is a Maori and has always shown great bravery." I understand his unit was using trench mortars at the time.
