Bryan Joseph Grofski was killed on the 7th October 1942 (his 30th birthday) while on a night landing practice flight with another New Zealand pilot in a 104 Squadron (RAF) Wellington aircraft based out of Aqir, Palestine. After eight uneventful practice landings the starboard engine suddenly cut out and the aircraft crashed and caught fire. Despite the best efforts of the other pilot on board who had been injured in the crash, Bryan could not be saved.
