Biographical Notes:

"STOKER W. D. ZANDER Born in Napier and educated there and in Marton. Stoker (1st class) William Desmond Zander, reported killed by enemy action, joined the Navy six months before the outbreak of war and was transferred to a warship shortly before war was declared. He had been in several actions. His parents came to Hamilton three years ago. Before joining the Navy, Stoker Zander was employed by the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, in their Frankton butter factory. He would have attained his majority this month."
