Biographical Notes:

"Mr. William Jessen, J.P., of 40, Kent-terrace, has received word that his second son, Gunner Donald Jessen, of 11th Battery, N.Z.E.F., died at Endell-street, Military Hospital, London, on 23rd February. The deceased soldier, who was, 25 years of age, went away with the 10th Reinforcement, and was on active service in France till after the armistice. Prior to going into camp he was on the staff of Macky, Logan, Caldwell, and Co., of this city, for five years. Death was the result of pneumonia following an attack of influenza. His elder brother, Gunner John Jessen, was killed in action in France on 24th August last." [Evening Post, Volume XCVIII, Issue 49, 28 February 1919, Page 8]
