Douglas Hollington Clegg was born in 1903/04 and was one of the first cadets educated at The Nautical College, Pangbourne in England. He died on 11th December 1940 when his ship, the SS Rotorua owned by the NZSC, was torpedoed 110 miles west of St. Kilda by the German submarine U-96.
