Biographical Notes:

Avenger, NZ2530 took off from Bougainville with 5 others, to join with 12 US navy aircraft and  attack Vunakavu airfield at Rabaul,(PNG).  It is believed that the Avenger, piloted by Melvin Greenslade(,RNZAF), was hit by anti aircraft fire shortly after passing over the north west part of the airfield on a bombing run. Observer John Morrison ( RNZVR), Air gunner William McCloud (RNZAF) and the pilot died.
