Biographical Notes:

Joseph was evacuated from Egypt, suffering from "adolescent insanity" (early onset schizophenia).  He was sent to the Karitane Troopers Home in July 1916 and then was transfered to Seacliffe Mental Hospital  and later to Narrow Neck Military Hospital in Auckland, where he died.
