Relationship to casualty: I adopted his grave in my own respect and manners. Wrote a lot about Len Townrow

Every year on Christmas Eve I light candles on Len's grave (far right) and the others. I have been doing that since 2013. Three years ago there was an action 'Lichtjes op Oorlogsgraven'. Since then hundreds of volunteers light candles on all wargraves in The Netherlands on December 24th.

Years ago, I heard the story of Len for the first time, how he crashed in 1943, how he was severely wounded and died eleven months later in a German Luftwaffelazarett (Air Force hospital). Since then I have been a regular visitor to his grave. One Christmas Eve, I lit a little light near his headstone and every year around the date he died, I pay him a visit. This year I brought him flowers. Schoolchildren had laid beautiful stones in front of his grave on April 15th. On this day in 1945 Leeuwarden was liberated by the Canadians. Len's resting just between the airfield from where his enemy who took his Lancaster down was based, and the hospital where he was as POW in those eleven months. There's so much more to tell but I'll keep it short for now. Kind regards from Holland.
