Percival Ernest Painter was the son of Frederick William and Isobel (Walker) Painter from Christchurch New Zealand. He was born in 1886 and married Christina Russell on the 25th April 1916 in Puaha, Little River New Zealand. He enlisted on the 27th March, 1917 Christchurch (D Company Reg 73445) He embarked on the R troopship 105 from Wellington 5th June 1918, disembarking at Liverpool 31st July 1918. He marched into Sling camp 1st August 1918 and left on the 10th October 1918. He arrived in France on the 13th October 1918 and was posted to his battalion 2 company on the 17th October 1918.
