The family story in Letters to Emma is that Reginald was killed on the last day of the war by a spent bullet. [Reginald was killed in action on 18 February, 1918. Perhaps, "killed in the last year of the war" - NZWGT] His older brother was killed on the Somme in 1916 on the 27th Sept , Richard George LLewellyn Davies, No 1 Co NZ Machine Gun Corp. No. 8/2811.
