Flight Sergeant Roy Alexander Hodge trained in RNZAF and then went to Britain where he joined RAF. He was sent to Canada, trained as a wireless operator and married Germaine (Gerry) Marcelle Adam in 1943. Her home was in St Boniface Manitoba. Back in England he flew as an airgunner and wireless operator. Returning from a raid to Cologne , their plane was shot down in Belgium - 4 killed, one captured but Roy evaded capture and was sheltered by the Correte resistance. (Excellent details on website "Aircrew Remembered.") For four months the family thought he was dead but he was led to safety in Gibraltar.   Back to England, he was sent to Canada as a trainer. He was on a flight out from British Columbia in a Dakota when the plane went missing. Despite extensive searching, the plane was never found.17 March 1944. His daughter, Sandra, was born 6 months later in October. His wife, Gerry died in 1966 and didnt remarry.
