Biographical Notes:

"Shortly before midday yesterday planes searching for the Kereru  {an NZNAC Lodestar that had gone missing earlier that day} sighted the wreckage of an aircraft on the hills inland from the mouth of the Otaki River.

Investigation revealed that it was the burned-out wreckage of an RNZAF Ventura which was lost on a routine meteorological flight from Ohakea on February 28, 1946. It had a crew of four. The crew were: — Flight Lieutenant Walter Gordon Jacobs, the pilot, whose wife, Mrs C. N. Jacobs, lives at Morrinsville.

Warrant Officer Hedley Beaumont Newell, the wireless operator-airgun-ner, whose father lives at Templeton, Canterbury. A.C.I Anthony John Hayhurst, the meteorologist, whose father. Mr C.
