Biographical Notes:

The NZ Herald reported on 30th July 2000, "Army medics battled in vain to save a New Zealand soldier who was critically injured during a road accident in East Timor. Shocked colleagues rushed to help popular Warrant Officer Tony Walser after his Unimog utility truck rolled down a 6m bank on Tuesday. He had been transporting a load of gravel and was following another truck when the road, believed to have been weakened by monsoon rains, collapsed under his vehicle.

The accident happened 8km from the border with West Timor in the Suai region, where the New Zealand battalion has operated for the past two months. Warrant Officer Walser was taken to the field medical unit, where doctors struggled to save him, but he died from massive head injuries."

Cremated in Palmerston North, we do not know of any memorial, except the "Tears on the Heart" Memorial at Auckland War Memorial Museum, where all 5 names from East Timor are listed.
