"Finding of Board of Enquiry held aboard HMT Raranga on 20/3/1919: Soldier jumped overboard from the SS Raranga (sic), whils temporarily of unsound mind and that the name of McDougall is an assumed name and not the real name of the deceased. The Court is of the opinion that ship's captain, ship's officers and crew acted with great promptitude and did everything that was possible to do in the circumstances" ( Spalding's service record)
