Wilfred was born in 1892 in Nelson. He was an old boy of Nelson College, leaving in 1908 to accept an appointment in the New Plymouth office of the Land and Survey Department. In 1910 after passing the Senior Civil Service examination, he was sent to Napier, and later came to the Auckland branch of the Transfer Department. While in Auckland he took up Law, and passed both Professional examinations. He was fond of all outdoor sports, particularly football, was a good swimmer and member of the Auckland Rowing Club and also loved to draw. He left New Zealand on 17th April 1915 with the Engineers of the 4th Reinforcements and on August 10th 1915 in heavy fighting after the advance from Suvla Bay, was killed in action engaged in the dangerous work of digging new trenches under fire. ...
