Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension (Nord)
(15 casualties)Bailleul is a large town in France, near the Belgian border, 14.5 kilometres south-west of Ieper and on the main road from St. Omer to Lille. From the Grand Place, take the Ieper road and 400 metres along this road is a sign indicating the direction of the cemetery. Turn right into a small road and follow for approximately 400 metres. The cemetery is on the right and the Communal Cemetery Extension is at the bottom end.

The cemetery lies 3 kilometres beyond Mesen on the right hand side of the N365 and opposite Hyde Park Corner Royal Berks Cemetery.

The cemetery area is on the south side of the road Salah Salem, which runs west/east from the River Nile towards the green park area approximately 2 kilometres beyond and eventually towards the Citadel. The cemetery is surrounded by a high wall and the double entrance gates are along Sharia Abu Safein. This road is parallel with the railway line which runs south from Cairo main station and both railway and Sharia Abu Safein cross over the main road. Access up to Sharia Abu Safein is by using the northside ramp above the main road underpass, on the east side of the railway.

The cemetery lies 1 km after passing through the village of Wulvergem, on the left hand side of Nieuwkerkestraat.

Here turn left into M.Haiglaan and drive to the next roundabout. Here turn right into Oude Veurnestraat, this then changes to Diksmuidseweg and Brugseweg drive along this road to the traffic lights, at the lights turn left into Industrielaan then turn 1st right into Pilkemseweg, the cemetery is approx 400 metres on the left.

La Plus Douve Farm Cemetery

From Ieper town centre the Rijselsestraat runs from the market square, through the Lille Gate (Rijselpoort) and directly over the crossroads with the Ieper ring road. The road name then changes to the Rijselseweg. On reaching the town of Mesen the first right hand turning leads onto the Nieuwkerkestraat (N314). 2 kilometres along the Nieuwkerkestraat lies the left hand turning onto Plus Douve. The cemetery lies 600 metres along Plus Douve on the right hand side of the track. Visitors should note there is an 80 metre grassed access path which is unsuitable for vehicles.

(Made prominent by a railway level crossing). Immediately after passing the village of Kemmel lies the Gremmerslinde, a right hand turning leading from the N331. The cemetery lies 500 metres along the Gremmerslinde on the right hand side of the road.

Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial

Each night at 8 pm the traffic is stopped at the Menin Gate while members of the local Fire Brigade sound the Last Post in the roadway under the Memorial's arches.
